Fire Glass
What would you do if you were breaking the glass on the fire alarm and the glass was breaking in small parts?

If you were kicking or using the hammer to break the glass on a fire alarm in a fire what would you do if the glass was breaking in small parts? With a hammer would you hit the glass and wait for some glass to break before doing more? Or with kicking would you kick it once wait until some glass falls and then kick the rest to pull the handle? How would you clear the class so you can pull the handle without hurting yourself?

Would it be normal to kick the glass and use the hammer to break it?

if you wrap your hand in a leather jacket, or a towel, you should be able to break the glass with the hammer, and clear the other glass out with your hand, safely covered in several layers of leather or cloth

how to get information about the buildings that were demolished in Montreal or Quebec?

There are lots of beautiful old buildings will be demolished. I want to get there and do things my own home, such as moldings and stained glass windows ... maybe a fireplace mantle. How I can find out about more scheduled to be demolished and how to contact the owners so that I can get there before the damage is done. I'm looking for the area Montreal / South Shore.

My guess would be to call the mayor. It is likely that the information they can provide citizens when asked for it.

Logs Fire Pit

Logs Fire Pit
What is the best way to start a fire for a copper fire pit?

I have just purchased a copper fire pit on a wrought iron stand. I am wanting to not only use it for a camp fire but to roast hot dogs and marshmallows on. I know the fire logs that can purchased are convenient but can't be cooked with because of how they are treated. I am a single mom new to this fire starting thing. Can someone please tell me how to get a good fire started in a fire pit and keep the flame going?

Thanks!

I can't think of an area of the country where you will be unable to find dead tree branches laying on the ground. Dry branches will burn fairly fast. The trick is to use small twigs over some crumpled newspaper to start the fire. Feed it bigger and thicker pieces of wood as it burns and you will quickly get to the point where you can add fairly large pieces of wood.

You can cook over almost any wood except the pine species. Pine will spit and pop and will flavor your food as the "turpentine" burns off. Best bet is oak since it is slow burning and plentiful.

There is a firewood guy in my area who sells me pickup truck loads of wood especially cut to length for my outdoor fire pit and chiminea. I'll bet you can find the same in your area.

Good luck with your firepit.
