How I get rid of paint on fireplace?
Just move in to my house,the woman living here previously wasn't very house proud and she never covered the top of the beautiful mahogany fireplace when she painted the wall.How can I get rid of the paint without damaging it?
Personally, I would just sand the entire top of the mantel down to the bare wood, match up the stain and refinish the entire mantel shelf. Because after removing the paint, no matter how careful you are, you will be sure to have trace evidence and will end up refinishing the top of the mantel anyway.
Make this easy on yourself, sand it down and stain it, then put two to three coats of polyurethane on the mantel. Then, move on to other things that need to be done in your new home.
